Writing 110 is a “workshop” course. The Little Egg Harbour School District explains that the “Writing Workshop creates an environment where students can acquire skills, along with fluency, confidence, and desire to see themselves as writers. Students are put in charge and are actively involved with creating their own texts. The writing workshop puts students on the spot and makes them responsible for their learning.”
Course Goals
• Gain skills in expressing yourselves with originality, creativity, and clarity in stories, poetry, and personal essays.
• Identify the successful elements of an effective piece of creative writing.
• Experience being in a writing community and learn to give and receive useful feedback.
• Experience writing as a tool for intellectual exploration, self-discovery, and creative expression.
Your final goal, as a writing student, is to complete a portfolio of work that represents your best 14-16 pieces of writing.
